Key Individual Salary 2026: Cyprus, UAE, Mauritius and South Africa

In short: Key individual pay depends mostly on the jurisdiction, the licence and how scarce approved candidates are. In 2026 indicative net monthly pay runs from about $2,000 for a South African FSCA Key Individual to $9,000 or more for a UAE Head of Compliance / MLRO.

What drives key individual pay

A key individual is the person a regulator holds accountable for a licensed activity or control function. Pay reflects four things:

  • Regulatory scarcity – candidates who already hold the regulator's approval, exams or certificates are in short supply.
  • Personal liability – the role carries personal regulatory exposure, which candidates price in.
  • Residency requirements – roles that require the person to live in a specific jurisdiction narrow the pool.
  • Licence scope – a broker dealing on own account or handling client money needs more experience than an advisory firm.

Indicative salary ranges by jurisdiction

All figures are indicative net monthly salaries for 2026, based on HRFinEase mandates and benchmarks. Actual offers vary with seniority, licence type and package.

JurisdictionRoleIndicative net monthly salary
Cyprus (CySEC)Compliance Officer, mid-level€3,500–€5,500
Cyprus (CySEC)Compliance Officer, senior€5,500–€8,000
Cyprus (CySEC)Chief Compliance Officer€8,000–€12,000
UAE (CMA)Head of Compliance / MLRO, Category 5$6,000–$9,000 + benefits
South Africa (FSCA)Key Individual, Category 1.13 derivatives$2,000–$4,000

Cyprus

Cyprus has a deep pool of MiFID II compliance professionals, so salaries are steady rather than inflated. Candidates holding the CySEC Advanced and AML certificates and experience with FX/CFD brokers command the top of each band. Employer costs add about 15% of gross salary. See the cost to hire a compliance officer in Cyprus and the UAE for the full breakdown, and the Cyprus key individual requirements guide.

UAE

UAE pay is the highest in this comparison because the Compliance Officer and MLRO must be UAE resident, full-time employees, and the pool of candidates with UAE regulatory experience is small. Packages usually add housing or allowances, health insurance and an end-of-service gratuity. See the UAE key individual requirements guide.

South Africa

FSCA Key Individuals for derivatives and crypto-asset firms are scarce because candidates need the relevant regulatory exams and category experience. Many roles are remote or hybrid and paid in US dollars. Our FSCA Key Individual requirements guide explains the qualification route.

Mauritius and Seychelles

Offshore key individual roles are often part-time or combined, and some are provided through management companies. Pay varies widely with the licence and the hours required. See the Mauritius key individual requirements guide.

Budgeting beyond salary

Salary is only part of the cost. Budget for employer contributions, visas and relocation where residency is required, regulatory exam fees, and the time it takes the regulator to approve the appointment. Recruitment fees are set out on our fee schedule.

Live roles

Current key individual mandates include a Key Individual for an FSCA derivatives and crypto firm, a Head of Compliance / MLRO for a UAE CMA Category 5 entity and an MLRO / Compliance Officer for a Seychelles FSA securities dealer. See every open role on the vacancies page.
